Student Organizations
Get involved! SDSU’s Sociology Department currently has 2 student organizations that students can become a part of and get more involved in both the University and the surrounding community.
Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Sociological Honors Society
Available to both undergraduate and graduate students, AKD is an internationally recognized honor society. The motto of AKD is “To investigate humanity for the purpose of service."
There are certain guidelines that must be met to become an AKD member. These can be found on the official AKD website. To find out more about the SDSU chapter, please check out their Yahoo! Group page.
For meeting dates and times, please check the AKD Bulletin Board located across the hall from the Sociology Department Office on the 2nd floor of Nasatir Hall, or become a member of the Yahoo! Group.
Sociology Graduate Student Committee (SGSC)
SGSC is a committee of graduate students committed to providing a collegial environment for addressing social concerns, providing a voice for student needs regarding curriculum, and offering a foundation for community action and social service within and outside of the University.
SGSC holds annual symposiums in the spring and also hosts brownbag lunches for discussion on current student and faculty research, along with many other events/involvement throughout the academic year. To learn more, please send an email to [email protected].
