Curriculum Vita

Ruth Liu has been a faculty member at SDSU since 1997. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Texas A&M University. Specializing in the areas of juvenile delinquency, intergenerational process and psychosocial stress, Professor Liu has authored and co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her research primarily examines the influences of the family and adolescent peer groups on delinquent outcomes and psycho-social stress as antecedents of deviance. Her current research projects focus on interrelationships among exposure to adverse life events, social support, and adolescent mal-adaptations in China. Professor Liu has served as an editorial board member of Social Psychology Quarterly, Youth & Society, and Sociological Perspectives. Her research has appeared in notable journals including Criminology, Journal of Youth and Adolescence, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Social Psychology Quarterly, Journal of Adolescence, Journal of Adolescent Research, and Youth & Society.She teaches courses on deviance, juvenile delinquency, and research methods.
